According to the General Director (Yury Borisov) of Roscosmos, an engine that was supposed to fire for 84 seconds did so for 127 seconds instead which provided extra thrust to the Spacecraft and send it to the wrong trajectory. Which ultimately led to its crash.

Luna-25 was the Moon mission which is launched by Russia after 47 years and it crashes into Moon. This failure of the mission is a major setback for Russia's space program and raises questions about its future lunar ambitions.

Here are some possible reasons for the failure of the Luna-25 mission.

  • Problem in Engine- As I have mentioned above the engine that was supposed to fire for 84 seconds did so for 127 seconds instead which provided extra thrust. This led its crushed.
  • Software Problem- It could be the Software problem in Luna-25 that kept the Spacecraft in malfunction.
  • Damage in Luna-25- while launching the spacecraft there should be structural damage in the spacecraft it can also be the one reason for failure.
  • Unknown Factors- It is possible that the Luna-25 mission failed due to an unknown factor.

After the failure of Luna-25, all eyes are on ISRO's Chandrayaan 3 mission which is going to land on 23-Aug-2023. I hope this article may help you.
