Gaganyaan Mission
Gaganyaan, India's first manned space mission, is set to make history as it aims to send three Indian astronauts into low Earth orbit for a period of five to seven days. The mission, which is expected to launch in 2022 but due to covid-19 it is shifted to 2024-2025. It will mark a major milestone for India's space program and position the country as a key player in the global space race.

Date of announcement
Gaganyaan, which means "spacecraft" in Sanskrit, was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2018, during his Independence Day speech.
Phase I: In this phase, ISRO will conduct two unmanned test flights to test the spacecraft's systems and crew escape mechanisms.
Phase II: In this phase, ISRO will launch the manned mission with a crew of three astronauts. The crew will spend five to seven days in low Earth orbit, conducting experiments and research related to microgravity.

Astronauts training
ISRO has selected four Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots for astronaut training in Russia. The training program will take place at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Moscow, and the astronauts will undergo rigorous training in spaceflight, survival, and emergency procedures.

Budget of mission
The mission is expected to cost around Rs 10,000
crore ($1.5 billion) and will be
carried out in two phases.
