 Hubble Space Telescope

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is the second biggest and most powerful space telescope in the world after the  James Webb Telescope that was launched by NASA  in April 1990 and has since revolutionized our understanding of the universe. And it has revolutionized our understanding of the universe and has enabled us to explore the farthest reaches of space.

Technical specifications of HST

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) operates by gathering light from distant celestial objects and focusing it onto its detectors. And the Hubble Telescope is equipped with a 7.9-foot mirror that collects light from space and directs it to a variety of instruments such as cameras, spectrometers, and coronagraphs. These instruments help to capture images of distant galaxies, stars, and planets in unprecedented detail.

Key Objectives of HST

One of the most significant contributions of the Hubble Space Telescope is the understanding of our universe's age and size. The telescope helped calculate distances to remote galaxies, leading to evidence of an ever-expanding universe, and to the Big Bang theory. Other notable achievements of the Hubble Telescope include the discovery of dark matter, providing an understanding of the structure of our Milky way Galaxy, and studying the atmospheres of exoplanets to determine the potential for alien life.

Supporting partners in HST

It is the first biggest telescope launched by NASA. The Hubble Space Telescope is an international collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA).

Location of HST in space

The Hubble Telescope orbits up to 550 km above the Earth's surface, allowing it to observe the cosmos away from the interference of light and atmosphere.

Budget of HST

It is one of the most advanced telescopes and it also requires maintenance and repairs, which are done by astronauts during the periodic shuttle missions since its launch. The total cost of this telescope is about $1.5 billion.

The Hubble Space Telescope has revolutionized our understanding of the universe by providing unprecedented views of distant galaxies, stars, and other celestial objects. Its stunning images and groundbreaking discoveries have captured the public's imagination and helped us to appreciate the beauty and vastness of the cosmos.
